“My grandfather had a 50-piece brass band. He taught my dad, who eventually passed it down to me. Now my seven-year-old son is picking up the trumpet,” he shares, with unmistakable pride. This musical inheritance isn’t just family; it’s culture, one Mo-T is determined to nurture and share.

“In South Africa, there’s often this undervaluing of brass players' low confidence, this assumption that horns are 'backing instruments'. But the trumpet has led entire stories. I want to create spaces and platforms to bring more horn players into the spotlight, giving them their due respect.”

He adds, That’s what ‘Follow the Horn’ is all about, building a future for instrumentalists in South Africa and beyond.”

Through both “Forever Lounging” and his next project, “Follow the Horn", Mo-T is building a future where brass musicians thrive, inspiring confidence, collaboration, and a celebration of instrumentals. He recounts a touching moment:

“Once, I got a message from someone in the U.S. They told me one of my songs helped save their family member, who was on the brink of suicide. Music can touch people in ways beyond our imagination.”

"Forever lounging" and the Fire & Ice collaboration

At the heart of “Forever Lounging” is more than music: it’s an immersive lifestyle experience. Partnering with the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice in Cape Town, Mo-T has created a boutique night out that blends fine food, sultry grooves, and a bespoke “staycation” vibe.

Guests arrive knowing they can let loose without worrying about how to get home, the perfect harmony of luxury and safety.

The partnership wasn’t incidental. Mo-T speaks of the patience it took to wait for just the right moment.

“We talked about this for ages, but I waited for the renovations to be complete. The venue had to match the vision: seamless, welcoming, innovative. And now, every session feels like magic where lounging turns into a full-blown party by the end.”

While it started in Cape Town, “Forever Lounging” is poised for national expansion, popping up in cities like Joburg and Durban. For Mo-T, it’s not tethered to one place; it’s a movement that can slip effortlessly into varying spaces.

When asked about the pressures of being an industry veteran and evolving through South Africa’s ever-changing music scene, Mo-T says, “I’m not competing with anyone else. I’m competing with myself. How do I not become the Mo-T of 2025 when I know I can aim for 2026?”

“You can’t just rely on nostalgia; you have to evolve. Music is about growth, practice, and opening doors for others. And that’s what all of this Mi Casa, ‘Forever Lounging' and ‘Follow the Horn' are about. It’s my way of teaching, of sharing, of building community.”

Even with the demands of his solo ventures, Mo-T remains grounded in his roots. This year marks 15 years of Mi Casa, a band that’s united people across South Africa and the globe with anthems of love, joy, and togetherness.

Reflecting on their journey, Mo-T shares, “It’s not just about the hits; it’s about the community we’ve built. This music continues to bring people from all walks of life together.”

As they prepare for a series of anniversary events, including a Friendship Cruise departing Cape Town in April, Mo-T acknowledges the dual importance of nostalgia and evolution.
