Dubai’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, affectionately known as Fazza, has sparked a powerful shift in how we think about motherhood.
In a move that truly honours the hard work done at home, he has officially renamed the term "housewife" to "generation shaper" in the UAE.
This change is so much more than just a new title.
While the word housewife only describes where a woman is, a generation shaper describes the incredible work she actually does.
It recognises that mothers aren't just staying at home, they are actively building society, teaching values and moulding the leaders of the future. And honestly, it’s about time the job description caught up with the actual workload.
The initiative is part of the Dubai Social Agenda 33, which aims to position Dubai as a global leader in family stability and social development.
The Crown Prince says that you cannot have a high-performing economy without high-performing citizens, and those citizens are shaped at home.
This shift brings a new level of cultural respect and prestige to the traditional role of women, modernising it for today’s world.
To make sure this change is felt in daily life, the Community Development Authority has been directed to replace the title of housewife with Generation Shaper in all official government records. This means that whether a mother is at a clinic or a school, her role is legally recognised as vital to the nation's future.
The Crown Prince is incredibly popular on social media with over 17 million followers on Instagram, which gives his endorsements massive cultural weight.
By using his platform to champion this terminology, he’s effectively telling the younger generation of Emiratis, and the world, that being a stay-at-home mother is a career of the highest order.
