Toyota South Africa has expanded the GR Corolla range with the addition of an eight-speed automatic transmission, joining the existing six-speed manual model, offering an alternative for buyers seeking a two-pedal setup.
The GR Corolla was first introduced locally in 2023 as part of Toyota’s Gazoo Racing performance line-up, positioned alongside the Toyota GR Yaris.
The GR Corolla is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine producing 210kW and 400Nm of torque, delivered to all four wheels via Toyota’s GR-Four all-wheel-drive system. Top speed is rated at 230km/h.
Eco, Normal and Sport modes are standard across the range.
The automatic derivative features Toyota’s GR Direct Automatic Transmission (GR D-AT), which is designed to deliver fast gear shifts and includes paddle shifters and sequential shift functionality.
Additional features include a shift-lock system, automatic transmission oil temperature warning and Parking Support Brake (PKSB) as well as an onboard diagnostic system.
The automatic version receives additional cooling hardware, including an air-cooled transmission fluid cooler and a sub-radiator positioned behind the front vents with a new air duct that improves airflow management.
Across the range, updates include Torsen limited-slip differentials, revised rear suspension geometry and the addition of rebound springs to the front and rear suspension.
A higher-capacity cooling fan (500W) has been fitted, replacing the previous 330W unit, and a tyre pressure monitoring system is now standard.

Interior updates include GR gun metallic finishes applied to the instrument panel, centre console and gear knob.
The iMT switch (that automatically manages rev-matching during gear shifts) has been repositioned closer to the gear shifter.
Standard features across the range include an integrated audio system, active noise control, reverse camera and blind-spot monitoring with safe exit assist.
The GR Corolla range is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense, including hill assist control, vehicle stability control, anti-lock braking system and electronic brake force distribution.
The Circuit Edition adds a head-up display and blind spot monitor. It comes with a seven-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and wireless charging as well as adaptive cruise control.
All models are sold with a nine-service/ 90 000km service plan and a three-year/ 100 000km warranty. Service and maintenance extensions are available through Toyota’s dealer network.
