Toyota South Africa has turned their attention to the iconic 70 Series focusing on ownership costs, powertrains and have simplified the model range. The rugged formula, however, remains unchanged.
The most notable change is the inclusion of a service plan across the entire range.
Most derivatives are now covered for up to 9 services or 90,000 kilometres, while the 4.2-litre diesel models receive 18 services over the same distance due to shorter intervals. The warranty remains at three years or 100,000 kilometres.
For a vehicle often used in remote or high-mileage applications, the addition brings some predictability to running costs.
The update continues the shift that began in 2024.
The 4.5-litre V8 diesel has now been phased out of pick-up models completely, ending its run locally. In its place, the range leans more heavily on the smaller-capacity 2.8-litre GD turbo-diesel.
Toyota has also broadened the availability of the 2.8-litre engine across the line-up, including the addition of a manual version in the double cab.
The 2.8 GD engine produces 150kW and 500Nm of torque in automatic models and 450Nm in manual derivatives.
Transmission choices include a six-speed automatic and a five-speed manual, depending on the variant.
The rest of the engine line-up carries over, with the 4.0-litre V6 petrol (170kW/360NM) and the long-serving 4.2-litre naturally aspirated diesel with 96kW and 285Nm still available in selected models.
The familiar three-body configuration remains.
Single Cab models continue to target commercial and fleet use, Double Cab derivatives balance load-lugging with passenger space, and the Station Wagon serves as the off-road-focused SUV option.
Chassis, suspension and off-road hardware stays the same.
