Ford South Africa has released more details including pricing, derivatives and drivetrains for the updated Ranger series.
Built locally at the Ford plant in Silverton, Pretoria, South Africa’s top selling double cab bakkie and the rest of the range gets a comprehensive line-up revision that spans 23 derivatives across single cab, super cab and double cab body styles.
Revised engine line-up and drivetrain updates
The biggest change is the introduction of the 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, producing 222kW and 452Nm, which Ford says is aimed at buyers who prioritise on-road performance and refinement.
With the 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine now discontinued, Ford has broadened the availability of its 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine. Producing 184kW and 600Nm, it now features in more derivatives, particularly those geared towards towing and off-road use.
The familiar 2.0-litre single-turbo diesel continues as the backbone of the range, delivering the same125kW and 405Nm. It has been tweaked with a revised timing chain aimed at improving long-term durability and reducing maintenance complexity.
The six-speed automatic gearbox has also been shelved in favour of Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission across most of the range while the six-speed manual transmission is available in XL trim depending on body style.

Ranger Sport fills the gap
A new Sport derivative slots between XLT and Wildtrak, filling the gap between workhorse and lifestyle models.
Available in Super Cab and Double Cab, the Sport offers a choice between the 2.3-litre petrol in 4x2 configuration and the 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel in 4x4, both paired with the 10-speed automatic gearbox.
It’s positioned as a dual-purpose option, aimed at buyers who want more presence and performance than XLT, without stepping up to the higher-spec Wildtrak.
More muscle for Wildtrak and Tremor
The Wildtrak offering sees a split in engines. The 4x2 Double Cab adopts the 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol, while the 4x4 derivatives get the 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel.
The Wildtrak Super Cab 4x4 and the off-road focussed Tremor Double Cab 4x4 both switch from the 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel to the V6, a move aimed at improving towing capability and off-road performance.
Ford has also dropped the standalone Wildtrak X derivative, replacing it as an optional package.
XLT and XL core models
The XLT remains Ford’s volume seller, offered in Super Cab and Double Cab formats with the updated 2.0-litre single-turbo diesel and a 10-speed automatic transmission. Both 4x2 and 4x4 configurations are available.
At the base of the range, the XL line-up has been streamlined to better serve fleet and business buyers. It retains both manual and automatic gearbox options, depending on body style.

Unchanged flagship
At the top of the pyramid, the Platinum continues as the luxury-focused bakkie, powered exclusively by the 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel.
The Ranger Raptor remains the performance option, with its 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine producing 292kW and 583Nm, combined with a specialised Fox off-road suspension setup.

Warranty and pricing
The Ranger is sold with a four-year/120,000km warranty, a six-year/90,000km service plan, four-year/unlimited kilometre roadside assistance and a five-year/unlimited kilometre corrosion warranty.
Buyers can extend service and maintenance plans up to eight years or 165,000km, while warranty extensions are available up to seven years or 200,000km.
