A HEIDEVELD family is mourning the loss of a one-year-old daughter who was fatally knocked down on Sunday afternoon just outside her home, apparently by a mini-bus taxi.
The tragic incident took place around 2pm on Sunday at Grace Court, when the little girl was run over and passed away at the scene.
Details surrounding what exactly happened are under investigation by the Manenberg police station.
According to police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk, a culpable homicide and reckless and negligent case was registered. However, no arrests have been made.
Van Wyk reported: “Manenberg registered a culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving case for investigation following an accident on Sunday, 22 March at 2.30pm at Grace Court, Heideveld, in which a one-year-old baby girl suffered fatal injuries.
“The circumstances surrounding this accident are under investigation. No arrests have been made.”
When Daily Voice arrived at the family home on the ground floor in Grace Court, not far from where the incident took place, we were greeted outside by a family member.
The woman said that she does not have all the details, as she is alone at home waiting for the rest of the family to return to the mortuary with information.
When Daily Voice reached out again to the family, the aunt of the little girl said that they are not ready to speak to the media at the moment, as they are still reeling in shock.
Police are appealing to anyone with further information to kindly contact Manenberg SAPS 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
